2008 International

First International Open Exhibition
October 26 1996-November 30, 1996
Long Beach, California

What a joy to work with more than two hundred fine acrylic paintings from around the United States and England! The overall quality of the submitted pieces was extremely high especially for the initial exhibition of an organization that is so new on the American art scene. To determine the final sixty paintings was an enjoyable if difficult task. Eliminating some very fine works simply because of a lack of hanging space seems a shame and was very difficult to do, but if is something common to all fine exhibitions.

I especially enjoyed the wide variety of competent expression, both in representative and non-objective directions, and sincerely appreciate the artists’ efforts to communicate in personal and effective ways. Entire ranges of style, content and emotion from exuberance to sadness, from mysterious to outright joy, from placid to boisterous, from narrative and classical to introspective and romantic can be experienced in the final selection. Artists can speak in many ways, and I like such a broad range of expression.

Paintings were not selected because of their technical excellence alone, but because of their content, personality and spirit. I hope that these vital elements in the paintings will come across as clearly to you as you view the show as they did to me when I intensively studied each of the works. These artists have much to say. Study their visual expressions and listen to their eloquent statements. Enjoy!
