"My career has changed overnight to that of an illustrator. The
Cornwell Museum of Art in Delray Beach, Fl will feature my book
illustrations this coming November through January 15, 2005.
Last October I had a fascinating first experience painting en plein air on
canvas. In May, the Long Beach Museum of Art, CA will feature one of my

President's
Message
Welcome to
our first International Society of Acrylic Painter Exhibit- ISAP (formerly
NAPA-USA.) This exhibit was impossibly brought together from many
volunteers spread across the continent. Gerry Willging from New Hampshire
collected and organized all the slide entries, Linda S. Gunn from Southern
California, who has held us together for ten years, chaperoned us all as
we transitioned from the National Acrylic Painters association into what
is now ISAP, Joanne Gossman from Georgia forgot to say "no thank you" when
she was invited to be our very important Secretary. You can read the rest
of the names of our
Board of
Directors
and recognize them as the "movers and shakers" of our art
community. I could not ask for a better ensemble of eager, talented and
crazed volunteers to help ou very worthwhile causse....to encourage
cultural and educational programs for the Visual Arts on the use and
enjoyment of acrylic painting. If you are interested in becoming a member
(all it takes is an artistic spirit in your heart) contact Victoria Pierce

Jurors Statement by
Robert Burridge
|
This handsome body of work exhibited here is a wondrous collection of
the best ISAP artists. Their imagination and investment in their craft
is commendable and represents the intentions of our first hand official
exhibit of the International Society of Acrylic Painters.
I have noticed that successful artists
set their goals when it comes to expressing what they feel compelled to
say. As a juror, I look for the artist's commitment in realizing
their aspirations. I ask myself if their art experience and individual
commitment was ordinary or was it exceptional. It's what I call the
"WOW" Factor. The top award winners in this exhibit all stopped me in my
tracks and stood out amongst the rest with a big WOW.
Although I tend to lean toward the
risk-takers, I juried the art not on style, execution or skill level,
but rather on artistic vision and the artist's own passion for creating
and communicating their vision.
In my opinion, these winning artists
are gifted people who see beyond the ordinary. I responded to art that
draws me in;the ones I keep coming back to.

What is that something that draws me in?
It's their passion for their art. Beethoven commented that it is not
technique or skill level that matters...it's the passion.
A painting which did not receive an award
simply did not because other art work stood out as "best". This
competition was juried from all skill levels. That is what makes this
show so superb. I have always said that if only the best birds in the
forest sang, the trees would be very quiet.
I am honored to have been your juror
for such a dignified and expressive show. |
